History

In early 2007, as part of their Equality for Women Measures Programme, West Cork Community Partnership advertised for women in the Union Hall area who would like to come together and create a community project.  With just five women responding, they arranged to meet with them over coffee and see whether a project could be started that would attract others in order to make it viable.

At that first meeting in Casey’s it was obvious that what these women wanted, was a women’s group.  All the women present felt sure that they could encourage other women to join the group and The Community Hall was procured for the group on Tuesday mornings.

The turnout at the Hall was very encouraging but due to a misunderstanding, the keys were not available.  Luckily, through the quick thinking of one of the women, the day was saved when Father Curran, the Parish Priest, opened his doors to the group.

A list of activities was drawn up and from that day onwards, Union Hall Women’s Group has gone from strength to strength.  The emphasis has always been on sharing skills with one another.
